Had this happen to a 1987 Subaru DL I was driving in college. I knew the car had cancer but I didn't care, it was $300. A year and a half later I turned up the entrance to a street that always fully compressed the suspension, and CRUNCH. Strut sticking out behind my backseat.

Junked it for $200, so that was $100 well spent.
